Use Instagram Highlights to GROW Your Business

If you're a fellow entrepreneur who has struggled to find a way to get your followers from hanging out on your profile to becoming customers, Instagram highlights might be your solution!

What Are Highlights

Highlights are the little bubbles that live under your bio. Highlights are saved Instagram stories that you choose to feature on your profile. Unlike regular stories that expire after 24 hours, highlights allow you to save your story directly to your profile for as long as you want it there!

How do I post a highlight?

Tap the plus icon at the top right corner of your profile, then click story highlight. If you haven't posted on your story, you'll need to do that before you can share a highlight. Old stories that have expired appear in your archive. Select which story you want to be highlighted, and then you're good to go!

So, how can I use highlights as a strategy for my business?

1) Use highlights like a navigation bar

Typically websites have a navigation menu with topics such as home, about me, FAQ, contact, results, etc. These are the types of topics you should feature as highlights. The information from these topics is valuable to someone looking for that type of content, like having your contact information easily accessible. Make sure to incorporate these topics in your highlights if you haven't already!

2) Ensure that your highlights are on-brand

The key idea is to keep the covers relevant to the highlight's topic and keep it legible. Keep in mind that this cover is a small icon, so don't use too much text. You can search for free icons and templates online or make your own on photoshop or Canva.

3) Update your highlights

Nobody wants to see old content. Sometimes people have highlights that they keep adding stories to from 50 weeks ago. When a potential customer lands on that content, it doesn't excite them. Keep your content fresh! Think about the user experience, and only keep relevant new content in your highlights.

4) Add a “how to work with me” highlight

The stories featured in this highlight should promote you and your product. Even if you don't want to seem salesy, highlights are a simple and subtle way to promote your business. Let people know what you do, how to work with you, and what to expect by having a "How to work with me" highlight.

5) Showcase your testimonials or reviews

Share what your audience is saying about your business or service. When someone lands on your page and sees all of the positive information that others say about you, they're more likely to trust you. Featuring results from real people who loved your real product or service is a great segway for someone to start interacting with your business!
