The past 15 years have seen a digital revolution. This radical transformation has caused digital devices and platforms to permeate pretty much every aspect of our daily life, from the time we wake up in the morning to the time we fall asleep. It’s the social media sites you scroll through non-stop, the emails that never stop coming in, and the way you connect with friends or strangers from across the globe that has truly disrupted society.
For me, I love social media in particular and the way sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have totally transformed our world and business as we know it.
For starters, these sites have provided me with a space where I can create and foster a thriving community of empowered and amazing women. Nearly half of the world’s population uses social media platforms, which makes them an amazing tool for connectivity and a great “natural” place to reach customers and gain a following. Social media sites truly provide the building blocks for creating your personal brand and getting your business to hit the ground running.
Building your Brand
What is your brand? How are your personality and interests reflected in your messaging and content? Focus on your “superpower”, that talent you possess that no one else has. Through social media, showcase who you are and most importantly, be authentic and remain consistent. These are the key pillars to creating a distinct brand that people want to invest in long term. Next, choose a social platform that suits exactly what you are trying to do — Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram vary widely in the type of content that suits them best.
Engagement
One of the most important and amazing things about social media is its ability to provide spaces for interaction and engagement. I love being able to reach out and communicate with others, and social media platforms truly facilitate that. Social networks are two-way streets that give every user the opportunity to interact directly with followers, customers, fans, or friends.
Large Audiences
Another reason why online interaction and engagement is so useful is because it leads to increased traction and circulation of your content. The people that follow you on social media can like, repost, share, and comment; all actions which allow your content to be exposed to newer audiences. The more followers you have, the more people will be viewing and interacting with your content. That is the beauty of social media that is both unprecedented and impossible on any other platform.
Networking
This seems to be a buzz term more recently, especially with tons of network marketing businesses popping up every day. But networking is your most valuable tool in improving the way you do business. Social media sites are in essence networking sites with the purpose of knowledge-sharing — and you should capitalize on that by using your profile as your greatest networking tool.
Zero Cost
This may seem like the obvious one, but it takes absolutely nothing to start your business on social media. All platforms are free (unless you want a premium service) so there is really no reason why you shouldn’t have a presence on at least 2 of the main platforms.
