Preventing the Inevitable Burnout
/Whether you love your job, career, business etc. — or not, even the best of us can face burning out. Burnout is the state of constant stress, a physical and mental collapse caused by working too much under increased levels of stress. From the never-ending emails and huge workload at your job to the nonstop at-home duties or child-rearing responsibilities, being a woman is tough. I get it! But living in a constant state of burnout has serious negative implications in the long term. Instead, take a look at these 6 tips you can start doing right now to decompress and avoid burning out.
Unplug
While most of us may not be able to afford the luxury of unplugging by taking a tropical vacation, there are many other ways to just unplug. It’s important to afford yourself the time to turn off other distractions and truly disconnect. Find something as simple as turning off all devices a few hours before bed, taking a day off, going for a run, or having a fun night out with a few girlfriends. Trust me, it will make all the difference and you will return to work feeling refreshed, reset, and more able to handle stress and problems that may arise.
Find the Little Things
What brings you joy? Is it enjoying a really good coffee, reading a book, listening to music, or maybe even scrolling Facebook for 20 minutes? Whatever it is, find a little thing you can do during the day to increase your joy and ease stress.
Schedule Free Time
This may seem impossible for most of us, but I promise you it’s not. Just like you should find time in your day to unplug or find joy, you can schedule free time which will force you to take a break. This is super important — you will come back to your work feeling recharged and inspired. Furthermore, research suggests that allowing your brain to decompress creates better and more productive work in the long run. And who doesn’t want that!?
Exercise
There is no better release than moving your body. When your body is moving, it becomes almost impossible to focus on anything other than exercise — making it a great stress-reliever. So much research has studied the effectiveness of exercise and its role in reducing stress, increasing productivity, and improving memory. Furthermore, the self-confidence that comes from knowing you are taking care of yourself can help combat physical and mental exhaustion.
Sleep
It seems like sleep is the solution to so many problems — stress, anxiety, better health, and avoiding burnout. Well, that’s because it’s so important! Without the proper amount of sleep, your body can’t function properly… so how do you expect to perform at 100% with only 10% of gas in your tank? You can’t. Getting enough sleep is crucial in avoiding burnout.
Social Time
Sometimes there is no better release than having a good laugh and enjoying some social time with people you love. Laughter has so many positive effects — it’s known to increase happiness and decrease stress levels. Also, spending time with people you care about is a great way to make you feel more emotionally fulfilled and thus less likely to burnout.
Love yourself - it’s the best love you will ever have.
